Alignment

I had taken my car to Tires Plus for alignment. When it was done, I asked for a report and they didn't provide one claiming their printer was choked. When I drove my car back, the alignment was still off. So I took my car back to them within 5 minutes. This time, they did not do anything and only provided me with the report (all of a sudden, their printer started working). The same thing happened few months back with my other car, but at that time, they at least fixed the alignment. I have the 3-year policy, but I guess they don't perform any alignment when you purchase the policy. If you pay for it everytime, they would do it.

@ "Same Happened to Me": You said "both tie rod nuts were not even hand tight. Avoid this dangerous rip off place at all cost." I JUST had two rear tires put on my car a few days ago and "aligned".

I heard noises immediately, but since they closed on me, I decided to wait until Monday (yesterday) to go back. Too late...Now, my rear axel is split in two, my left tire canted outward. I almost died and I have an imobile vehicle. I am also a U.S.

Marine and current Pre-Law student...I am upset and doing my homework before I push forward on this issue. I'm sorry for both of our situations and let's hope for the sake of Tires Plus that they have a spectacular attorney.

Guest

Why in the world does your company have an account with those Tires Plus thieves? Your work truck will end up with some serious damage if you keep taking it to those devious *** They're not real mechanics for one thing, and they've ruined many vehicles due to their incompetence.

And when they're not screwing up cars, they're always scamming people with unneeded repairs and not even doing what they're charging the customers for, as you know.

They've got to be the most crooked, criminal outfit out there right now. And with all the other rip-off shops out there, that's saying a lot.

Guest

I was waiting in the lounge while getting tires and an alignment for my truck. They put the tires on and pulled it out front.

I watched the whole time and knew it never went on the alignment rack. When I was presented with the bill I asked how off the alignment was and was told "pretty bad". When asked how he knew since it never was checked he backtracked and said he had it confused with another vehicle ( only pickup in shop ). Of course I was being charged for it on the bill. Then it was pulled back in and aligned .

Sort of. 3 months latter when replacing the tires again at another shop I was shown that both tie rod nuts were not even hand tight. Avoid this dangerous rip off place at all cost. BTW , this is not my 1st problem with this shop by any means.

Just the latest. Oh , and before you ask why I keep going back its a work truck and the company has an account with them.

Overcharged and underworked

On August 24, 2010 I went to your Tires Plus location at 10570 Excelsior Blvd, Hopkins, MN. to have a valve stem replaced on my tire. The quoted price was $214.27. I thought this was high so I chose not to have the replacement done. I hadn't had any problems with the tire as far as leaking. I drove back to work, approximately one mile from Tires Plus. When I went out to my car four hours later to go home, the tire was flat. I called Tires Plus and asked if someone could come and change the tire for me. I was told "NO". I was told I could have the vehicle towed to Tires Plus and they would change it, for a fee, plus I would have to pay the towing charge. The employee told me I probably picked up a nail on my way back to work. I told him it was a possibility but I highly doubted that was the case. He told me it was not Tires Plus responsibility, I was on my own. I did handle the situation myself. I then took the tire to Discount Tire in Shakopee, MN. to have them fix the tire. They did not find any type of object in the tire. They did say the valve stem had been bent and was leaking. They replaced the valve stem (sensor included), put the tire back on the vehicle, stowed the spare back to it's proper place. They charged $75.00 for everything. The employees were very polite and courteous. As you can see I made the right decision. Tires Plus was away out of line as far as pricing goes. Not only that, the person I spoke to on the phone was very rude. I did not pick up a nail on my way back to the office, I believe the stem was bent by an employee either taking the tire off or putting it back on. Someone at your company should take responsibility for this instead of trying to blame it on someone or something else. I am very disappointed in the service I received from your organization.

:roll I wonder about shops that sell Tires and do not have an alignment machine. I would imagine not working on a car and just retiring only.

(just selling tire service) would be beneficial to the fact that complaints would be minimal. I mean how can you screw that up?

Guest

Of course you know these *** are trying to scam you when they try to pry $220 out of you to replace a valve stem which is well under a $100 at most other shops. But most people don't know better They're incompetent crooks who can't fix jack squat and do damage to cars every day.

Don't use these clowns for anything ever again. They've got to be the most crooked chain outfit in the country right now. You absolutely made the right call by getting out of there the first time; you shouldn't have called them back though. You should have gone to Discount Tire from the get-go.

They are one of the very few quality big chain shops out there. Now you know.

Guest

Sounds like the original poster doesn't quite know what he/she is talking about...

Guest

I really hate to read things like that, it's bad when an associate of my chosen occupation behaves like that. truly you may have picked up a nail; but not likely.

I think I would have put a guy in a car and sent him to your location if I didn't do it myself. and Wow what was that tire sensor made of to cost like that. obviously a mark up error. I knew those things were trouble when they came out with them.

I yield to Discount tires on this one.

Good job you guy's. please try not to judge by one apple , remember "One bad Apple don't spoil the whole darn Batch!"

Guest

you and I both know that the sensor was not replaced. the valve stem with the crush washers maybe but for sure not the sensor.

Discount Tire isnt going to pay you to do that.

any sensor on any vehicle is more then $75.00 even the shops cost. get the facts right or dont spout

Brakes

I got my brakes done and to this date my brakes are still squilling and making noise. I have taken my car back twice (2) and they are still making a whole lot noise when I brake. Each time I go back they tell me we put new pads and each time after about a week or so it starts all over. I will never go back there for brakes. I will now have to take my SUV back to toyota to get my brakes done. Very unhappy customer, I would not recommend them for brake work at the location I went to.

"Squeal" can be caused by many other intervening (means, get into) elements one being minerals that are just floating around or lying on the ground, like salt, iron dust, akalye, things that leak off other vehicles sharing the road with you, car wash detergents, tire shine sprays, other things people do but do not realize what they are doing, not to argue that Tiresplus has it all together, technicians have short cuts by laziness by not changing worn cutting bits, or not installing vibration dampners during rotor resurfacing, washing recently resufaced rotors is really important, consult with the manager or lead technician and insist on these industry standards and the "squeal" should go away. please accept my appology for not being the technician that worked on your vehicle. but tiresplus has standards that anyone of us as technicians can be fired for if we are not practicing.

Tires Plus Damaged My Breaks To Get More Money

I went to Tires Plus in Stone Mountain, Ga to get my front right tire and my power steering checked out. I went across the street to a restaurant to eat lunch-ten minutes later they're calling me saying I have a serious problem. When I get back theres fluid leaking from my car and they say its a leak in my break hose. There was no leak in it before I got there and now my brake pedal is loose. There was no problem with my brake pedal b4 I got there. Now Im scared to drive on the highway before I get it fixed. Gonna go somewhere else though-they wont get a penny from me. Im thinking about sueing them for the damage that wasnt there before. This business needs to be shut down.

LawuitReady, I highly doubt they cut your brake line in order to sell you one. For the simply reason that businesses like an easy sale.

This is not an easy sale because you will say stuff like, "It wasn't like that before I brought the car in". Businesses don't like complaining customers. That's not a situation any shop would choose to walk into. There are easier cons than this.

Most likely, your brake hose was already weak to begin with and it just happened to burst while the car was in the shop.

It happens. I've only been working as a mechanic for 2 years, and I've already seen it twice. The car comes in without a brake fluid leak.

And then the leak happens for the first time while the car is in the shop. Believe me, it happens.

:upset lawsuit, you are clueless, highway taxes, vehicle registration fees, new vehicle taxes alone, are rippoffs overlooked on a regular basis, a couple of Mechanics trying to sell you a coolant flush or a transmission service, whats up ? are you that tight , Do you know how many people never even open that manual in the glove box?

it would suprise you if you knew. those services are minumum recommendation by the Manufacturer of the vehicle. Brakes! gimme a break!

any pro from an A.S.E. certification program can condem the basic brake system based on the very standards of the vehicle manufacturer themselves, As far as that poor Mechanic riding a bus, Just trying to make a living on the wages and flat rate programs offered by most of these outfits a.k.a. vehicle service pros. Think of this for a Moment...

If your car repairs were free. but you had to pay the medical bills for that poor mechanic riding the bus, he's been exposed to chemicals and hazards if you could comprehend, metal shavings blowing around machine areas alone cause eye injuries that would break your bank account inside a day. I myself have third degree burns on my Arm from attempting to service consumer vehicles in time frames dictated by these discount oil change sales, have you bought a bandaid from an emergency room lately , you would sure pull that legal tone away from the mechanics and place it on a Doctor the instant you pay $140.00 and not even get the wound washed, back injuries alone in this industry could settle our National debt. And you list Karma, well,250 car pile ups with multiple injuries caused by Fog , trapping many in need of medical attention, no Brake faults, coolant wasn't the issue, transmission were working well enough to get everyone up to speed to colide with each other, and I could go on , with karma, my policy as an individual , Honesty!

and above all every person has the right to say simply NO!, accept or reject the estimates, and examine old parts. Your Lexus (over glorified Toyota) has parts that are three times the price of a toyotat with toyota stamped right on them as they are installed , try suing Lexus for that, oh no! you would be riding the bus if you did that.everyone always has a bigger Lawyer, paralegal you couldn't afford the stamps it takes to sue Lexus for overpricing those toyota's.

But one stamp placed on a complaint letter could cost that Mechanic his job. truely karma, realy!

By the way-I am a Paralegal and I know plenty of lawyers-so if or When I decide its Worth My Time 2 file a suit on ANY Mechanic who Commits Foul Play on Me or My Vehicle-I Am Well Equiped 2 Do So.

But in this instance like many others I have come across theres this wonderful natural law called Karma. & About a month ago I saw that Same dirty mechanic Walking 2 get where he had to go. From bus stop to bus stop. Now aint that something? ;-)

SEEMS PRETTY SEVERE, YOU THINK THEY CUT YOUR BRAKE LINE TO SELL YOU ANOTHER ONE, BECAUSE YOU WERE THERE TO GET YOUR POWER STEERING CHECKED?and you drove away from a repair facility with bad brakes. to justify your claim. :roll Steering and tires pays way more than brake hose, the risk of working on your car is the same, and shutting down the stores should let that never happen to anyone again. Now there's logic you can bank on to ensure the stability of honest business .

Ripped off and pissed off/tire brace & stolen parts

I went in for an oil change and they said I had cracked tire braces. I paid $400 and my car won't stop shaking. I will have to take it back again! My daughter's Jeep they said needs a new engine and when I said I was donating it, they stole parts off of it and disconnected all gages. We contacted them and their manager was "on vacation". We continued to call to no avail. They should be ashamed and I wish I had the time to pursue legal ramifications! I am telling everyone to BEWARE and what crooks they are!

Tires Plus some stores rip you off!

I have had good success atg Tires Plus on N. May, OKC. However, last week I made the mistake of going to another store closer to me. I am an 80 year old woman but not *** or senile. I went in to have them fix my right front tire which appeared to be having a slow leak. Instead they took about 20 minutes (if that) to give me a TPVI and a Fuel System tuneujp and then said I needed about #1100.00 worth of service but when they saw I was not goingh for that, they said it could wait until next summer. I went home sensing the tire still had a nail or something in it. I got up early the next morning and went to the Tires Plus I trust and sure enough they removed a nail from my front tire.(I had purchased the tires from Tires Plus. I called Discover and told dthem not to pay the first place...this may be a problem but I am going to fight anyway. I have avery limited income and although my car is a 1994 Olds, it is in very good condition and I only drive aboiut 25-30 miles. if that a month. It would have been difficult for me to have a flat somewhere away from my home. This is such a rip off and how many other people have they ripped off.

Dummy manager/ lack of automotive knoledge

I went to my local Tires plus for a quote on front end alignment.(Mandarin) San Jose Blvd. I told the service manager that i needed shims behind my control arms, he told me to find them because he had no idea where to get them. I went to our local Napa store and he asked how many i needed, they are a stock item. What kind of store managers are hired at Tires Plus. I WILL NEVER GO OR SEND ANYONE TO THEM.I have a 1992 Astro Van, but the fact that he told me to get the shims myself is just ignorance on his part. I hope the corporate office reads this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would love an opportunity to apologize in person on behalf of our company. If you would be so kind as to call me at the store (904) 731-**** I would appreciate it immensely.

You were not specific as to which location you visited (we have two in mandarin) but I would love to earn your business regardless. Thank you

now that manager is an ***, if he has a hunter, coats or any other major brand alignment equipment various shims come in a kit with alignment tools.

Tires plus lies and do not made a safe job

in plantation store in florida , i paid 300 for 2 tires aligment and 200 for brakes i was in the store 8 hours for that job and when they finish they did not put the tires in the correct place i almost lose a weel they return my car to the lift 30 minutes more and they never said excuseme or apologize , they are not doing a profesional job , they lie to me they said " its more safe put new tires at rear axle , y paid to rotate tires and they never do it ...dont go there caution please caution i not feel safe in my car now , i wrote 2 email to tires plus but they never answered to me , bad costumer service.

What do you mean by "i almost lose a weel"?

Did the wheel fall off the vehicle while you were driving? I hope that's not what you meant.

On another subject, it's true that it's safer to put the new tires on the rear to prevent what is called oversteer.

Guest

another consideration would be the availability of parts for particular cars. if you only had one vehicle and no one was available to give you a ride to a place where you would be more comfortable, service manager could have made arrangements for you, after explaining the availability of the parts for your car, although it seems a communication barrier may have been the issue. I only hope you are safer now than before you brought your car in for service :)

Guest

what was your vehicles reliability before you went and waited for such a long time? why were you waiting?

appointments are available. waiting made you unhappy perhaps there was a communication barrier that caused this. what exactly did you consider unsafe? tiresplus has 60 minute gauranties for tire installations.

"almost" and did lose a tire are far from each other.

perhaps at that location an interpretur would have been helpful. but the cars is built as a car and service personel can deal with that.

Guest

:grin

Guest

i think you're *** for waiting around for 8 hours for two tires and a brake job. dammit boy....did they put you on the payroll while you were there??

and yes, contrary to popular belief, you are safer with new tires on the rear.

if you feel unsafe with other tires it doesn't matter if they are the front, back, side, hood whatever. you should have bought all four cheap ***.

you were there long enough. *** i would have started *** after two hours.

Liar Liar Pants on Fire !

took our 2007 sub for the third time for squeek in rear brakes that started after the Janesville store replaced pads and rioters. They called us to say this time a plunger in the caliper was frozen and had damaged all the previous work. "Freid the system", was the exact term. The good news, they would cover the cost of the pads and rotors but the calipers would need to be replaced on both rear wheels and the cost would be $530.00. I told them to button it up and do not preform work.I picked up my car and drove it straight to Farm and Fleet who inspected the system. They called us in 20 min. to say the squeaky was a bent emergency brake on on a rear wheel. The rest of the system looked great. They repaid it for $ 38.00 and the squeak is gone.I returned to Tires Plus presented them with Farm & Fleet's bill.He returned my $ 38.00 and said "must of been misdiagnosed !

Most likely, the first repair was done the lazy way (simply plugging the tire without taking the tire off the rim and patching the inside), which is why they didn't know there was Fix-a-Flat inside the tire (they never looked inside).

If you repair a tire the lazy way, the plug won't stay in the tire because the Fix-a-Flat acts as a lubricant and the air pressure (sometimes) blows the plug out of the tire. (I've seen it happen.)

The Fix-a-Flat website claims that you can repair a tire with Fix-a-Flat in it as long as you clean out all the milky, stinky fluid. However, the truth is that Fix-a-Flat weakens the inside lining of the tire and increases the risk of liability. Businesses have a right to choose which risks they are willing to take on or not take on. Plus, that stuff is nasty. That's a job I am willing to pass on. It's a tough nasty job to get any fluid out of a tire. It's even nastier if it's a foul smelling, hazardous chemical that is flammable. The flammability is no joke. I actually know people who claim that the a tire "exploded" on them while breaking the bead.

In my opinion, Fix-a-Flat is nothing but trouble. A spare tire, a jack, and a lug wrench is much better than Fix-a-Flat. The only scenarios where Fix-a-Flat is appropriate is if

1) You got a flat at a dangerous location where you can't safely change the tire (for example in the middle of a bad neighborhood).

2) You are late to a job interview or other important event/occasion.

3) You are dressed in expensive clothing.

Good and bad service

I was a long time customer of Tires Plus, I went in yesterday after seeing a nail in my tire, the car was drivable and I went in and they wanted $24.00 to remove the nail and patch the hole. They then told me that the $24.00 would be a waste of money because the tires were bad.

I decided to go to a competitor, Butler Tires when I have only done a limited amount of business with, they patched the hole and charged me nothing for the repair and said my tires were fine. I am pissed

Their service isn't consistent. At times I can bring a vehicle in and get great service no problem. (I have an account and long time customer with 8 vehicles in their system).

I few issues. Brought one car in for a brake inspection. Said all brakes needed service. Had a mechanic inspect and the rears were at 70%.

They needed another car for 5 hours for a simple oil change. Had a mechanic check it later. It still had the same oil filter on.

Another car had to bring it in 3 times for a proper alignment. Two month later pronounced tire wear on one tire (they won't replace) and told me that it had a bad bushing. Why didn't they catch that on the first 3 alignment checks???!!!

Recently went online for a tire quote with mounting, etc... included.

Call location to verify they sold me they don't even carry that size and will mount another size up for $100 more.

Needless to say I am tired of their poor business practices and will take my money elsewhere.

Guest

I agree with Leroy Jenkins.

Sufficient tread depth is important because it prevents hydroplaning. A good time to replace a tire is when the tread depth is 4/32 of an inch. The minimum to pass inspection is 2/32 of an inch, but that's strictly a minimum government standard. When it comes to the safety of you and your family (plus complete strangers on the road), government minimum should not be enough.

If you've ever experienced hydroplaning, then I don't have to tell you the importance of sufficient tread depth. New tires are cheaper then medical bills.

Guest

What about those of us who went in with a nail in the tire and later find out that shouldn't have been patched bit replied instead

Guest

Mike,

You are cheap and ignorant. A quality tire repair should cost around $20+ bucks because such a repair includes balancing the wheel. You can get away with just repairing the tire, but then chances are the balance of your tire/wheel assembly will change (because the technician will remove a certain amount of rubber to put the patch in, and the plug has some weight to it as well) and it will vibrate going down the road. If the tech didn't re-balance your wheel to save you some money, you will probably rush back to the tire shop screaming that the repair wasn't done right and then they would have to balance your *** tire for free to make you happy. That's why they re-balance the wheel with every flat repair, to fix the problem right the first time and to not tie up a bay and a technician with someone like you.

As far as your tires being "bad" or not, that is a subjective point. Without knowing how much tread (in millimeters or 32nds of an inch) is left on your tires, it is impossible to determine the truth. The Tires Plus shop offered you free advice letting you know that your tires were probably getting pretty low on tread where it would make more sense to just get a nice new tire with more tread then investing in a tire with very little tread left. You however, being a cheap and arrogant fool, did not want to face the fact that you had to spend some money and get some better tires and sauntered off to another tire place. The guys at Butler Tires recognized your type right away, and to make you happy fixed your junky old tire for free. They also know that this way they will earn your loyalty, by knocking another auto shop and showing you, "see, we are so much better than them!" But when the time comes for you to shell out some money for some new tires or some other repairs, you will go to them, hear how much stuff costs, get mad, and go somewhere else!!

People like you make me sick.

Have a good day sir@!!!

Tires plus is a rip off

About 2 or three years ago my car alternator went out, and the nearest place to me was tires plus. I took my car there and they told me what the problem was, and I told them to fix it. A friend picked me up, and throughout the day, I kept getting calls to see if they could replace my winshield wipers for x amount of dollars, and that I needed a new battery because my other one was drained from not being recharged due to the alernator problem. I told them just fix whatever problems came with the alternator. I come back and my bill is 750 dollars, I don't see my old battery, which was only six months old, and they don't give it back to me. Now it is three years later, and I have the same alternator problem. I don't think that is long enough for that 750 dollar service and part to last. Don't EVER take your car here!!!!

On the other hand, it's possible they lied about the battery being bad. If that's what you suspect, then you should have demanded the battery back before authorizing the work. Of course, you will have to pay for the core charge on the battery if you intend to keep the old battery, but that's not a problem because you can always sell the core and get the core charge back but after you get the battery tested at a reputable shop. Because that's the whole point of demanding the old battery back, so that you can test it.

It's possible a bad battery (or even a discharged one) can kill an alternator and vice versa. A discharged battery will caused the alternator to "full field" and overwork, thereby killing it. An alternator that is overcharging (producing much more than 13.5 volts) will kill a battery.

Remanufactured alternators then to be *** You should have demanded a brand new alternator. Brand new alternators tend to be more reliable. You get what you pay for.

Tires Plus is the worst big chain out there right now. Thieves, scammers and incompetent ***.

They use the cheapest garbage parts, and couldn't give a rat's behind about fixing any cars. I wouldn't even let these monkeys check the air in my tires or open my hood. That's how bad these *** are.

NEVER take your car there. If you do, you'r'e taking a HUGE RISK with your car and your money.

Tires Plus - Liars and Bait & Switch

Took my car in for tires after calling for a price. When I got there, the person said that they made a mistake...gee, it went up $100. I had them put the tires on and their head crook motioned for me to come over..he said that my wheel hub assy needs to be replaced...I told him that I would take it to the dealer (the dealer replaced the hub assembly 3 months ago). I took the car to another place..no problem found. I also took the car to a second place; no problem found Crooks..I will never go there again.
