Went in for tires but they tried to get more

Bought new tires at Tires Plus in Woodbury, MN for "Buy 3 tires get 4th free" deal, includes a free check. They said it would be bout an hour and I went shopping across the street. Shortly after they called me and said I also needed a new tie rod and it would be an extra $270. I told them to just put on the tires. Went to pick up my car and overheard the manager on phone telling another customer they also needed a new tie rod. Thought to myself "hmmmmmm", coincidence? At home I had someone check my car and afterward he told me the tie rod was just fine and did not need replacing. Seems to me an extra $270 would pay for that 4th "free" tire, the "free" check, and put a little extra in their pocket. I told my usual car mechanic and he said he had a friend used to work at Tires Plus and had to leave because he did not feel right having to replace perfectly good parts with new ones and charging customers extra. I reported them to the BBB. It's a RIP OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Extremely high innacurate estimate

I brought my car in to Tires Plus for an oil change and was told that the head gasket had blown and needed to be replaced. The man on the phone said "we are looking at about $1500." I told him that he not I was looking at $1500 bucks and immediately picked up the car. I took the car two states away to my brother's local mechanic in Virginia and was charged $435 for the entire repair plus an oil change. I showed Tire's Plus's estimate to two separate mechanics and they both used the same exact words "highway robbery". I will NEVER take my car to these shysters again and strongly suggest that everyone go elsewhere for services.

I have worked at tires plus for 6 years. I replaced my own head gasket on my personal vehicle for about $1200 with my employee discount.

I did my timing belt, tune up, valve cover gasket etc. all at the same time, because you should, or you must, to access the cylinder head.

$1500 seems reasonable for the average head job. Bet your shade tree mechanic didn't do the same quality work, and wouldn't warranty the work if a problem arose.

Guest

phony up two witnesses and swear by it that's all you need , other than truth. truth is you can replace a head gasket and just a head gasket , I watched a Mechanic loosen all the bolts on a head and not remove any other part from the head.

He scraped the old gasket out in one piece and snuck the new gasket in underneath everything, then put the bolts back in and torqued the head with an impact gun. less than one hour. Started the engine and it ran wonderfully and surprisingly well.It held back coolant. He collected full price for a head gasket repair and sent the vehicle to it's demise.

less than one month of driving and poof hydro-locked the cylinders and bent 2 connecting rods burning the bearings out . looks like a duck must be a duck .Engineers know things , respect that.

I know where that Mechanic is and it's not where he was. :roll

Really? This is your response?

That you are a corporate (yes this is the correct spelling) business and "have to do things by the book." Your by the book was THREE times what I actually paid.

In response to your "do your research" comment, I did do my research which is why I did not pay the middle man (I.e. Tires Plus) to do a job any "back yard mechanic could do." I said it before and I will say it again, DO NOT GO TO TIRES PLUS..

Guest

:? head gasket...

not saying tires plus did a inaccurate qoute or to high... but you have to add we are a corperate business... we have to do things by the book... so a head gasket involves checking the head (MACHINE SHOP) charges us X amout of dollars...

also head gasket replacment involves new head bolts, gasket, and other items...

any back yard mechanic can just replace the gasket for 438 dollars... so do research of your own and get things done right the first time...

Dishonesty by employees, accussed me of lying

Brought in my 91cadillac for tires and oil change. Is older with a few problems, so when the tech accidentally pulled off the *** for the hood opener, I just figured it was its time...but then the kid denied doing it, and I even overheard him tell the woman at the front counter that "he's lying"...THIS is what pissed me off, and if I didn't need the tires, I would have told them to drop my car immediately!!! I wasn't looking for any reimbursement, like I said, my car isn't exactly in pristine condition, but to say a costumer is lying...well, needless to say I will never go back to the Tires Plus out on SR 70 in Bradenton again, and if you choose to, I'd advise standing outside the work bays and watching them work!

I, WholeHearted agree with you, Sir

The only time a person should call someone a Liar is if there is irrefutable evidence to the fact. Given the possibility the handle had run it's course and had just popped off it was Grace that allowed you both to experience the moment together.

an explainable incident for both parties. I would have strongly cautioned the person condescending my customer , and asked him to leave the area. Then an acceptance on your part, a part purchased at cost and a small labor charge to install the part. Shop fees are to pay the rent.

the remedy is good business. :)

Chanhassen minnesota tires plus...worst store manager ever.

store manager, jason sieling recommended me to buy a fuel pump because my car wouldnt crank over,he told me the battery took out the fuel pump. Even though it didnt make sense to me I trusted him. Picked my car up and jason said it runs perfect! Went to start my car the next day and just click click click. Call ford.....they put a battery in and now the car has worked perfect since. Call jason sieling to ask for him to take care of me...he declined and said the battery was a seperate issue. When I called and asked ford about they laughed, and said we got alot of business from there horrible service, then there 25yr master tech said"tiresplus clearly sold you an unneeded fuel pump. Never again will I deal with tiresplus. All thanks to jason seiling.worst service ever.

Tires Plus Hypoluxo, FL. Best Price, But Not Best Deal

Purchased a tire from there several months ago, ended up getting a nail in the tread so we brought the car in to have the repair it. the salesman informed me that because we did not purchase a "Road Hazard" warranty when we brought the tire it was going to cost us $32.00 to have them patch it. Brought the car down the street to TIRES CHOICE where we have purchased tires in the past (but Tires Plus was 14.00 cheeper for this tire) and explained the ordeal and they fixed the tire at no charge, just asked that take care of the kid in back doing the work, which I did with pleasure....Just goes to show you, the best price isn't necessarily the best deal...This isn't about bashing Tires Plus, but about praizing their competitor(TIRES CHOICE) for handling a situation that really had nothing to do with them. Kodos Tire Choice for your customer service....

I haven't had that many tyre puctures for the past few decades, but when I did keep a car longer than expected and had to replace tyres, I always paid for the road hazzard protection. It came in handy a couple of times with Goodyear and Firestone.

I had a nail pucture last summer and went to Firestone to get it fixed. They did so, but charged $28. Apparently, this procedure has gone way up since the last one and I was rather shocked at the price. However, that is their prerogative to charge what they will and I suspect that the next time that happens, I will try Goodyear and see what they charge.

I commiserate with you as costs for services seem to have gone sky-high.

Must be the wages they are forced to pay by the government. They have to charge accordingly.

Incorrect and incomplete diagnosis of brake issues

I have many issues with this visit. I was told that the squeaking of the brakes was from the glazed/damaged rotors. One the follow up visit, I was told the squeaking was actually coming from the rear brakes. I was never aware of the premium brake service available which would have included caliper replacement which now needs work. Service manager thought the new symptom of my car pulling to the left upon braking was unusual and had no idea as to the cause. Upon my own research, I found this is clearly a sign of a malfunctioning caliper. I feel that the complete vehicle inspection and brake repairs that were done should have included testing the calipers. The obvious issue here is that the vehicle did not pull to the left before being serviced. They offered no explanation for this except to say it must be a coincidence. I also authorized and paid for a newly discovered problem of a loose ball joint and this repair alone cost $270.00 for parts and labor. Is that excessive? 90 minutes of labor? They also aligned my vehicle to the wrong specs because the vehicle information was entered incorrectly. Just a lot of inconsistencies with what they have told me up to this point. How can I really justify going back there? They also declined to test drive the vehicle on the initial visit for weather reasons. It actually was not THAT BAD out. Couldn't they have at least drove it around the parking lot to test the brakes? Tires plus no longer has my trust.

Damaged my Car!

On Sunday Dec 18th I called Tires Plus when my car statrted to overheat supposedly. I explained to the tech COACH that there was smoke coming out of vents inside the car.

I then told him my temp gage was showing the arrow pointing to HOt. After I had the car towed in, the car was left to be diagnosed. I then received a call from the tech (COACH) that the car needed a new water pump and the car was leaking antifreeze and water. He explained what he came up with and admitted that the car did smell of Antifreeze.

When the car was done I paid for the bill and left. The next day the car temp gage still was acting weirdly and the arrow was still pointing to the H position. I brought the car back in at approx 530 the next day and told them the problem. They told me that the car didn't have enough Antifreeze and they came up that there was an airpocket in the car.

The tech then was trying to take care of the airpocket by refilling the car with more antifreeze and water. This process continued for approx 1/2 hour and the tech mentioned once again that the car did smell like antifreeze to some degree. He said he cleaned up the leak and I should be fine now. The next day or two the same problem happened again and I brought in that Wed to another Tires Plus on Us Hwy 19 in New Port Richey to get a second opinion.

The tech there named Brad told me he noticed an air pocket as well and took care of it supposedly and I should be fine now. It took several days for this problem to get worse over time and in the end my car didn't need a water pump but a heating coil that eventually almost burned my car to crisp.

Now you know why no one should ever take a car with any kind of problem other than tires to a Tires Plus store. They may know tires, but what makes anyone think they have qualified mechanics working there? Lesson learned, I hope.

Tires plus on 887 Pilgrim Way 54304 packers town

i went in to get a alignment and going to special Oder 4 new tires for my other car. i first printed out walmart tires service charge and brought it with me. while i was standing near the counter, another customer was quoted for some tires. i told the guy about walmart service and than ask mr bob if the other customer can get the balancing for walmart price. mr bob said no price match with walmart or sears. i ask if he is the general manager and responded yes. i than ask if he speaking on his behalf or the company and he told me the company. i say ok well i'll call the company when i get home. the other customer didn't buy the tires and left. while i was waiting for my alignment to be done i told mr bob that i didn't know tires plus don't match price with walmart or sears. he told me that they don't price match because walmart sale cheap(low end) tires. but that have nothing to do with how much walmart charge to balance the tire thinking in my mind. i told him you know i can just bring new tires into walmart and have them mount and balance for me. bob than said we do that too for about $80 we can do all four tires carry in. yea i know you do it too bob but walmart do it for half the price. i didn't say that to him but he doesn't look too happy. so much about price match and 200% pay back of the difference. later i look on walmart site and found that they do carry many more brand name tires and more high end tires. tires plus only have their in house tires, firestone and bridgestone tires while walmart has michellin, good year, dunlop, continental, handkoo, and kuhmo and many more model of the tires. i called tire plus affair guy on the other line didn't know why they won't price match me and told me the district manager will call me in the next two business days. now two weeks came by and still now call. oh well i guess mr bob is probably right than. have anyone had a problem like this? anywayz walmart carry in mount is $5 balance $6.5 your at 46 tires plus balancing

see...this is what i hate...when people think price matching a tire means that any tire can be matched to any other tire. how would that work?

you bring me a coupon for $39 walmart brand tires and expect me to match it to a top of the line bridgestone or even mid grade firestone?

apples and oranges, people. it's not that difficult.

Guest

to mr bob you talk like you are the manager there and maybe you are. why would you kick a customer out if they ask you if you price match, visit tiresplus.com and 200% price match the difference on the headline. su*k it up mr bob did i scare your other customer away..

googles review this store as 1 big star everyone go check it out...

Guest

Tires plus charges exorbitant rates for balancing if you did not buy tires from them. From other reviewers, it appears that they aren't very good at fixing tires either. Did you try Discount Tire -- though I doubt if they will match the $5 per wheel offered at Walmart.

Guest

To the original poster,

You are trying to haggle without bringing a written estimate and for an independent shop, Tires Plus, it's probably not even worth doing tires for that small of amount because they have certain profit and productivity goals that they need to produce. Wal Mart's tire department is not very profitable and is there mainly for convenience.

Wal Mart can afford to have an army of untrained hourly employees who don't produce, so if you want cheap stuff, why not just go there! Instead you are trying to get arguably better products and service, but for the same price as Wal Mart.

I applaud your efforts, but I secretly wish that manager would have kicked you out of his store and told you to never come back, so you'd quit wasting that poor man's time. Have a Merry Christmas!

Guest

Price matching usually requires you to bring in a written estimate or advertisement from the competitor. Forget about complaining if you haven't even done that.

Guest

The point here is that this store doesn't price match with Walmart or sears so u don't have to waste your time going there. Just because its a tires store doesn't mean they know more about a Walmart tires store unless its a manufacture tires company. Go to tires plus website and Walmart and see who have the better quality tires.

John N Mzy

Not sure what your complaint is. So, Tires Plus doesn't match WalMart.

Don't go to Tires Plus. You took your car to Tires Plus and had them balanced, but complained about them not price matching. If you were so unhappy, then all you had to do was go to WalMart. But, you didn't.

Bottom line: WalMart and Tires Plus have different quality of workers.

With WalMart you may or may not get someone who knows what a tire is. With Tires Plus, they will not only know what a tire is, but how to fix them, etc.

Disappointed Customer

I took my vehicle to Tires Plus (5289 Minola Dr Lithoina, Ga 30038) On Tues. 3 Jan. 2012 at 6:23 p.m. There was smoke coming from under the hood of my truck and it had an awful smell. So, I pulled into Tires Plus to get it checked. The young man at the counter pulled it into the garage and popped the hood. He came inside to inform me that my water pump was leaking. He had another gentleman lift the truck using some machine so that I could see for myself. Once the truck was lifted, he pointed to a spot I'm assuming was the water pump and said this is where your leak is coming from. All I saw was, fluids draining from my truck. They would not et me drive the truck around the corner to park it. They insisted on me leaving it there so they can work on it. I was given a price of $482.34 to fix it. I was unable to pay that amount so, I went and purchased a water pump and asked them if they could install it for me. I was told that it was against their policy to use parts that customers brought into the shop. It had to come directly from the dealership. On Wed, I went and picked up my truck and took it to another auto shop that wasn't going to charge as much. Before working on my vehicle, they did a pressure test. After having the pressure test done we saw that the leak was actually coming from a hose that had *** in it! It was never the water pump! After finding out was really going on with my truck, I called Tires Plus and I was told that since the hose was NEAR the water pump, that's the reason why they told me it was leaking. Really??? So, you honestly don't know anything about vehicles. You just name something and tell the customer it's broken, charge them hundreds of dollars and never fix what the problem really is! I've been a customer of Tires Plus for a while but, I will never ever go to this company again!! I think your employees need to go through mechanics school again and learn the parts of a car! I truly disappointed and will be sure to inform people I know to never use Tires Plus again!

Went in for new tires, they tried to add more

My regular mechanic was out of town so I went to Tires Plus in Woodbury MN for "buy 3 tires get 4th free" deal. They said it would be about an hour and it included a free check. Went shopping across the street. They called me shortly after and said I also needed a new tie rod and it would be an extra $270. I told them to just put the tires on and that's all. Went to pick up my car and heard manager on phone telling another customer they also needed a new tie rod. I thought to myself "hmmmmm", coincidence? When I got home my boyfriend checked the tie rod on my car and said there was nothing wrong with it. Seems like that extra $270 for the tie rod would more than make up for that 4th "free" tire and the "free" check. When my mechanic got back in town I told him about it and he said one of his friends used to work for Tires Plus and had to quit because he did not think it was right to replace perfectly good parts with new ones and charge the customers extra. I was so pissed I reported them to the BBB.

Disregarded my appt and took on a walk in

Had an appt at 12:00 and I arrived a half hour early, told the technician I was here and handed him the keys. Another customer just walked in and requested some tires.

I had walked out and when I came back, the wallk in was having her vehicle worked on and my was still sitting outside, Asked the technician why he had done that and he told me because I had arrived early and he had told me that it would take 2and a half hours for my car to be finished. His was rude and he had a I din't care attitude.

why would you hand the keys to the technician , the begining of the process would be to complete a work order then give the keys to the service writer for proper tagiing of the keys and delivery to the service advisor, then the technician can work on the vehicle without losing the never had the keys excuse is not a factor anymore.

Guest

There are a lot of factors involved in directing workflow. Appearance can sometimes be deceiving.

As long as your car is finished in the time promised, shouldn't that really be what really matters? A shop has technicians of varying skill levels and proficiency. It's the service advisor's job to match the right technician to the right job.

You didn't say what kind of work you were having done. If it's high-end work, then you can't just give it to the oil change tech.

Tires plus 30 day tire policy!

To all of you consumers out there. Tires plus has a wonderful 30 day policy where you can try there tires if you don't like them just bring them back and we will trade you out!

Pretty awesome right! Well what do you think they do with those tires that they pull off your car? Well they sure dont return them, that would be to big of a hassal, instead we throw them back on the shelf and sell them as new again! Awesome right?

Ha unless your the next person who gets that used set for full new price!

Think about that! And yes management is the one in control of this!

Send them back to the warehouse? That's too much work. Truck day is enough work as it is without doing unnecessary silly stuff like putting stickers on the used tires and then putting the used tires on a pallet and then wrapping the pallet with plastic wrap and then labeling the pallet.

Bridgestone

I am from the corporate office of Tires Plus. When we have customers who take advantage of our 30-Day Try and Buy program for tires, the tires are returned to our warehouse and the store gets credit for the tire.

At no time are the tires put on another customer's vehicle.

If you have information that a store is not returning the tires to the warehouse, please send me an email at social@***.com so that we can investigate. Thanks,Steve

Preformed unnecessary work

Car needed an allignment. Took my car to Michael Tire in Richmond, Indiana. Was told this needed done and that needed done. OK guess I am an easy mark so I said to do the work. It cost me a big $748 in repaires. Since I didn't have the cash they put it on their credit card. The car ran worse than when I took it to them. Vibrations were *** and were not there when I let them work on the car. After I complained they worked on again for 20 minutes more and although it was only sightly better, was told that was the best it could get and cars like that normaly run like that. NOW I am not ***. My car has never run like that and I have had it for 5 years. It has cost me another $102 to have it fixed ( still not running right yet), but Michael Tire did not do the extra work. Do not ever do business with this company.

Oil change gone bad

I went into the lake street store for a oil change, with my coupon, and also a coupon for check engine lite on, asked for tire pressure to be checked, if it was they never told me, never topped off any other fluids. cause about two hours later low coolant, and low windshield washer fluid lites flashed a few times. and on top of this, they pushed in my lower drivers front quarterpanel in at the bottom, so the drivers door rubbed when you tryed to open it, they did take that back in and pulled on door and panel so they didn't connect any longer, but paint now was flaked off of quarter panel. the managenger on duty that day was having a bad day, so he wasn't very nice to customers I doubt that I'll be returning to that store with such shady service.

Hello,

My name is Tom and I am with the Tires Plus Corporate Office. I have read through your review and want to apologize for the unsatisfactory service your recieved. In regards to the fluid check, during a courtesy check proper procedure is to check fluids, fill tires to proper inflation, and top off washer fluid. We do not top off any fluids besides washer fluid but rather alert the customer if any are low. Any type of vehicle damage is taken very seriously, if you could please email me at social@***.com with the store location and an invoice# or phone # I can get the right people involved to help.

Thanks,

Guest

nikalseyn. many people take their cars to tire dealers for alot of other services besides tires, ex.

wheel alignment, brake services, tune ups, oil changes.

Not everyone has the tools, equipment or the time to do these things themselves. So like Guz said, quit tooting your own horn!

John N Mzy

Not sure why you would go to a tire store to have your oil changed. Also, unless you are crippled, you should be able to check fluids and tyre pressure yourself. And, you could do as I do---change the oil and filter yourself.

Disappointed Customer turned Happy!

On 10 January 2012, I posted a comment about my experience with Tires Plus in Lithonia, GA. Since the post, the manager of the store contacted me and apologized for the service I received. He stated that he appreciated the fact that I posted my issue with his store. He was able to speak with his employees about it and in the end, made sure the customer (Me) was satisfied. We had a long talk over the phone and in person and I've decided to give Tires Plus another shot. I've been a long time customer of Tires Plus and would like to continue being serviced by them. Thank you so much Wayne!!! I'll see you soon!
